I'm not sure it's possible to give any type of definitive answer
Unlike the 679 Sports 6 convertibles — all of which were,
of course, Vitesse 6 convertibles but with unique commission number plates as
well as rear badging both reading "Sports" — I don't
believe there was anything other than badges themselves to distinguish a "Sports
1200" (mostly US from around 1966-67) or a "Sports 12/50"
(exclusively Canada, I think, and about the same time period). There is some
notation about the "Sports" badge in some editions
of the Herald Spare Parts Catalogues, but all it says is "Special Orders only"
regarding the "Sports" badge.
A wild guess might be a couple thousand Heralds total were badged as such
between the US and Canada
