Fuel Consumption

As a rule of thumb if your 4 cylinder Herald/Spitfire doe's any less than 30 miles to the gallon on a run, pinks (detonates) under load or runs on then it is in need of a tune up. There is no good reason why a properly tuned carefully driven 4 cylinder should not do 50 mpg on a run, I have done it myself many times in John Kippings 1500 Herald (the rally car mentioned above). 1 gallon(UK) = 4.6 liter
1 miles = 1.6 km

30 miles per gallon = 10.4 km/liter¹
36 miles per gallon = 12.5 km/liter
50 miles per gallon = 17.4 km/liter
